Here at ICE, we have been blown away by the work that Emmaus UK do to support people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with both a home and work in a community setting. Emmaus provides a home for as long as someone needs it, which gives people the opportunity to take stock of their lives, deal with any issues they might have, and often re-establish relationships with loved ones.
We have been carrying out various fundraising activities to support Emmaus this year, but have also engaged in volunteer days to help out in their Winchester community.
Several members of Team ICE spent 2 days at Emmaus Winchester, carrying out a deep clean of their floors and painting the dining room ready for Christmas.
We were all so overwhelmingly impressed with the facility, which provides a home for 35 people along with onsite jobs including working in the charity shop, cleaning, maintenance, and woodwork, that we are excited to return and support further next year.
In 2024 we will be involved in more fundraising and volunteering activities including additional volunteering at the Winchester and Cambridge Emmaus communities, fundraising through our annual golf day, and Marathon Month (a month-long fundraising campaign that encourages people to complete 26 miles of walking, running, swimming, or cycling throughout the month).
